LES PIRIE WINS ARGYLL and BUTE
GOLF TITLE AT AGE OF 50


Les Pirie from Millport secured his first area golf title at the age of 50 (on Saturday) at a windy Rothesay where he won the Argyll & Bute men's amateur stroke-play championship by three shots from Bute's Graham Bolton.
One stroke further back were George Reynolds and Chris Timms of the host club. Pirie ensured victory by improving on his first-round, three-over-par 72, with a fine three-under par 66 in the afternoon which included a back nine of 30. In the youths championship, run concurrently, local club champion Gordon McClean won with a total of 148.
