Graham Gordon leads the way
at The Players Club

Aberdonian Graham Gordon shot six under par on the first day of the Yes! Classic at The Players Club in Bristol, thanks to a clutch of birdies down the home stretch.
Graham (SWM Golf Management) began his round on the back nine and played steady golf approaching the turn, with a bogey at 15 sandwiched between birdies at the 12th and 17th leaving him one under going into the front nine. This is where the Scot made his move, with birdies at the first three holes followed by two more at the fifth and sixth to shoot a fine opening round of 65.
Dale Marmion (Eaton) is two shots behind Gordon after posting 67, with a similar flurry of birdies on the front nine to that of the Scot contributing to his round – picking up shots on the second, third, fourth and sixth.
Three players sit at three under, although Sean McDonagh (The Grand Golf Club) will be thinking it is a case of ‘what if’ after spoiling a great round with a double bogey with three holes to play. Mark Ramsdale (Formby GC) and Mark Laskey (The Shire) join McDonagh with rounds of 68.
Order of Merit leader Noel Fox (Team Ireland – MMI) is well placed for the final rounds after posting 69 today, a serene one under on the back nine after starting at the tenth was followed by an eventful front nine, with four birdies and three bogeys. Ian Ellis (Weston Park), Matthew Richardson (The Buckinghamshire) and Daniel Brooks (Mill Hill) are also two under going into the second round.
Chris Hanson (Crosland Heath/GO2SPORT.com) won the Pro-Am on Sunday (July 13) with a round of 64 and went solidly in the opening round of the main event, a double bogey with three to play dropping him to a one under round of 70.
