Mid-Amateur title

Aberdonian Terry Mathieson, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, has not given up hope that he will get a Scotland cap some day, even though it might be a seniors' one if the SGU selectors keep ignoring him.

A former semi-finalist in the Scottish amateur championship and beaten by Allyn Dick in the final of the DM Hall Scottish mid-amateur championship at Dullatur in 2006, Terry is off and running again in this week's over-25s' tournament over the Dundonald Links in Ayrshire.

Terry, a regular North-east District representative player until he moved from Aberdeen to Edinburgh last year because his girlfriend had enrolled at Edinburgh University, led the 16 qualifiers on Saturday for the match-play stages.

He received a walk-over in Sunday's first round beofre beating Irvine Ravenspark's George Robertson 5 and 4.

That means an all-North-east semi-final between former Murcar Links man Mathieson and John Mitchell from Fraserburgh on Monday morning at 8am. Mitchell had a good win over the No 2 qualifier and former champion, Andrew Farmer (Kilmacolm).

The other semi-final, at 8.15am), will see Ross Coull from Edzell play Steven Robertson (Sandyhills).

The final will tee off at 1pm.]
