Steven McEwan leads

Tennant Cup

qualifiers at

Glasgow Gailes

Steven McEwan from the Caprington club leads the field at the halfway stage of the Tennant Cup SGU Order of Merit 72-hole tournament.
McEwan, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency (all rights reserved), had rounds of 70 and 68 at Glasgow Gailes today for 138 to head the 41 qualifiers with totals of 155 of better who will contest Sunday's final 36 holes at Killermont.
McEwan, Scottish boys' stroke-play champion in 2005 and a youth international, had birdies at the first, fifth, ninth, 10th, 12th and 18th in his second round in halves of 34. His only bogeys came with three putts at the short sixth and a lost ball at the 11th.
His nearest challenger is former British amateur champion Craig Watson (East Renfrewshire) with 71 and 68 for 139.
Former Scottish champion Glenn Campbell (Blairgowrie) and Scotland's top-ranked Callum Macaulay (Tulliallan) were the first round leaders on 68, Campbell birdieing the 10th, 13th, 16th and 18 for 32 home, his only bogey coming at the 11th.
Macaulay highlighted his morning round with an eagle 2 at the par-4 second after a big drive.
Callum starts the third round in fourth place behind McEwan, Watson and Ross Kellett (Colville Park).
Glenn is one shot behind in a group of four on 143, including Scottish boys champion Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) and St Andrews Links Trophy winner Keir McNicoll (Carnoustie).
Defending champion Wallace Booth is joint 12th on 147 with rounds of 72 and 75.
Heavy rain set in for the final 3 hours of play.
