PING signs Willett to endorsement contract

England’s Danny Willett, who attained the ranking of the world’s top amateur before last week announcing his decision to turn professional, has agreed to endorse PING golf equipment, PING Chairman & CEO John Solheim announced today.
The 20-year-old Willett will make his professional debut this week at the Celtic Manor Wales Open playing 14 PING clubs, carrying a PING bag and wearing PING headwear. He’ll play a PING G10 driver, G10 fairway wood and hybrid, i10 irons, Tour-W wedges and an i-Series Anser 4 putter.
The Rotherham native joins the professional ranks after a distinguished amateur career that includes wins in the last year at English, Spanish and Australian amateurs in addition to the South of England title. He also represented GB & I at the 2007 Walker Cup. In two European Tour events this season where he competed as an amateur, he earned two top 20 finishes, including a 10th place tie at the Spanish Open at Real Club de Golf de Seville.
“Players of Danny’s calibre only come along every so often,” said Solheim. “His amateur record is outstanding and he’s already proven he can compete with the professionals. He’s played PING for several years so he’s got a great relationship with our group in Europe. We’re excited to have him join our staff and all of us at PING look forward to following his progress.”
Willet, who has played PING since he was 15-years-old, embarks on his professional career with confidence in himself and his equipment.
“It’s a big step turning professional, so it makes sense to use the clubs that have helped bring me success as an amateur,” said Willett, who topped the World Amateur Ranking System for 12 weeks before turning professional. “I have a lot of confidence in myself and in PING. I know they’ll provide me both the product technology and service I need to take the next step in my golf career.”
