KNOX ON HOOTERS TOUR
Russell Knox from Inverness continues to make money every time he plays in his new career as a tournament professional in the United States.
Knox, pictured right, left the amateur ranks after graduating from Jacksonville University, Florida last May after four successful years on the American college circuit. He stayed on in Jacksonville and turned pro.
He is currently sixth in the NGA Hooters Winter Series money table with $12,388 take-home pay from six 54-hole competitions, having made the cut in every one of them.
This week Knox, a Scotland youth team international two years ago, shot 69, 74 and 69 for a four-under-par total of 212 and a joint 18th place finish at Forest Lake Golf Club in Ocoee, Florida.
Knox improved from joint 35th after two rounds with a roller-coaster ride on the final day in which he had eagles at the first and 13th, birdies at the second and third, and bogeys at the 10th, 17th and 18th.
He earned $2,336 for his fifth top 20 finish in the Winter Series in which his worst placing has been tied 22nd. He has had three top-10 placings.
Kevin Hall from Cincinnati, Ohio won the $11,909 top prize at Forest Lake by four strokes with rounds of 70, 66 and 66 for a 14-under-par total of 202, underlining the quality of opposition that Knox has had to live with on the Hooters Tour.
Sean McTernan from Sligo, Ireland finished in joint eighth place on 209 with scores of 69, 69 and 71 to earn a cheque for $2,336.
Edinburgh exile David Kirkpatrick, a resident of Lakelands, Florida for the past decade, failed to beat the 36-hole cut. He had scores of 76 and 77 for nine-over-par 153.
