PAR AFTER TWO ROUNDS
OF SOUTH AFRICAN TOUR
QUALIFYING SCHOOL
Northern Open champion Murray Urquhart from Inverness has had two par-matching rounds of 72 in the Sunshine Tour Qualifying School at Country Club of Johannesburg in South Africa.
Urquhart, pictured right, knows the two courses being used well from previous trips so that has been a big help to the Scot who played on the Challenge Tour and Tartan Tour in 2007.
South African Louis Moolman leads with 66 and 69 for 135.
December 19 - Sunshine Tour Qualifying School.
The leading British player is second-placed Jeremy Kavanagh from Stoke Park Golf Club. He flew straight to Johannesburg from failing to make the grade at the Asian Tour Qualifying School.
The 72-hole South African event is being played over the long but more open CCJ-Woodlands course (7,411yd) and the tighter, tree-lined Observatory GC course (7,030), both with pars of 72.
Urquhart four birdies and four bogeys over CCJ-Woodlands in Round 1 and three birdies-three bogeys over Observatory.
The cut after two rounds reduced the field to 109 players with totals of 151 or better. The next cut is at the end of 54 holes - down to 64 and ties.
On Friday, after completion of the fourth round, the leading 40 players and ties will gain playing rights for the South African Tour in early 2008.
"If I am successful, it will open up a new door for me and the plan would be to play solidly in Africa for the first two months of the year," said Urquhart before flying out to South Africa on December 13.
