TAIN PRO STUART MORRISON
MAKES IT TWO WINS OUT OF
TWO ON NORTH CIRCUIT

By ROBIN WILSON
Played two, won two. That's the proud record of Tain Golf Club's new professional golfer, Stuart Morrison on the North Golf Alliance circuit after his second outing of the season at Royal Dornoch.
After a winning debut on his home course three weekends ago on his return from Spey Valley to take up a Tain position, Morrison, picture right (by Robin Wilson), was back on familiar Dornoch turf to record back-to-back wins and head the field of 62 with a card of 63 over the 16 holes laid out for play.
Resting the sixth and 13th greens and also playing from very much further forward winter tees, the course loses 1,116 yards although it still has a par of 70. The new Tain professional eased his way to the turn in 33, helped along by an eagle 2 at the driveable eighth hole, cut from 434 to 260yd.
Even with two of the four par-3 holes omitted, Morrison still had six 3s on his card and came home in 30, finishing with a birdie 3. Had he played and recorded par figures at the omitted holes his score would have been a 69 against the 18-hole par of 70. Morrison won by five shots from Tarbat greenkeeper Mike Keay.
Keay didn't waste a shot on the outward stretch and recorded a level par 32. His first slip came on the par-3 10th hole, probably the most difficult par on the card from its winter tee, and then at the easiest par-4 on the card, the 15th, he went over the green and took 5.

The wrong line from the winter 17th tee put him into trouble, necessitating a the penalty drop from whins, and he ran up a double bogey 6 on an inward half of 36 for 68. A fine second scratch place behind Morrison by the seven handicapper.
Keay's elevation to the better net prize of runner-up to the Class 1 handicap winner from Reay, Bruce Mackay, net 60 off 10, allowed a second score of 70 from Jim Sangster (Thurso) to earn the second scratch prize.
Tarbat members are making their mark since becoming part of the Alliance group and third handicap went to Hamish Skinner with a net 62, from gross halves of 35. Recording a good Ross- shire day was Raymond Lockie (Tain) with a net 63.

The North and South names in the high handicap section were equally shared, two members from Durness wedged in between two from Thurso.
The fixtures move back over the Ord to Reay golf course on Sunday, December 2 and members are being reminded that teams of three, made up of current members only, should now be arranged for the three-ball, better-ball event at Brora on Sunday, December 16.
