RANFURLY CASTLE TRIO FINISH 23rd OF 26 IN
EUROPEAN MEN'S CLUB CUP ON CORFU
Scotland, represented by Ranfurly Castle's Gregor Munro, Murray Stewart and Colin Haddow, finished 23rd of the 26 countries competing in the European Men's Club Cup tournament on the Greek Island of Corfu.
Haddow totalled 233 over the three rounds, Muinro and Stewart 240 each over the par-72 course. With the best two individual rounds counting daily for a team score, Scotland totalled 467 - some 47 strokes behind the winners, France's Golf de la Boulie.
The French were favourites before the tournament started. How lucky of them to have three players with handicaps of +5, +4 and +3 all members of the same club! It brings back memories of how the same French school used to win the Golf Foundation international team schools title every year. Funny how all the best boy golfers in France always seemed to go to that particular school.
The three Frenchmen finished first, seventh and eighth in the individual standings with Romain Schneider won by four strokes with scores of 72, 66 and 69 for a nine-under-par total of 207.
Surprising to see countries such as Slovenia and Turkey finishing second and fourth.
Ireland were the best from Great Britain & Ireland with the County Sligo Golf Club trio of Gary McDermott, David Dunne and Seryth Heavey) fifth on 238.
England's Brokenhurst Manor squad of John Young, Martin Young and Robert Gowers were joint ninth on 443.
Wales' Wenvoe Castle trio of Keith Stimpton, Nick James and Sean Davies totalled 447 for 14th place.
