ROBB WINS PAUL LAWRIE
JUNIOR MATCH-PLAY
TITLE AT NEWBURGH

Inchmarlo’s Chris Robb has followed up his recent successes in the North-east District Under-18 boys’ match-play and Under-16 boys’ stroke-play championships by winning the Paul Lawrie Junior Match-play title at Newburgh-on-Ythan Golf Club.
Chris received a bye into the final when his semi-final opponent, Scott Fraser (Royal Aberdeen) had to travel south with the Scotland team for this week’s boys’ home internationals in Wales.
In the semi-final that was played, Michael Campbell (Buckpool) beat Dennis Grant (Huntly) by 4 and 2.
Chris Robb took an early lead in the field with birdies at the second and third holes and was still two up at the turn. Dennis could not make any inroads on his opponent’s lead and Chris closed him out with an excellent tee shot at the 16th for a 3 and 2 victory.
Paul Lawrie followed the final and later demonstrated his skills at a short-game clinic for the competitors.
“Congratulations are due to all three boys who played with great endeavour and a high level of sportsmanship throughout the day,” said Paul.
“The standard of junior golf continues to improve in the North-east of Scotland.”
