ALL SUNDAY'S AREA TEAM
CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS

After what seemed like hundreds of phone calls, we now have all the results of Sunday's Scottish men's area championship ties. Here they are:

GROUP A

AYRSHIRE 0, LANARKSHIRE 3
Lanarkshire won the foursomes 3-0 at Ballochmyle then the singles were cancelled because the course was flooded.

RENFREWSHIRE 6 1/2, SOUTH 2 1/2
at Ranfurly Castle

GROUP B

ARGYLL & BUTE 2, FIFE 1

Argyll & Bute secured a narrow victory against Fife at a waterlogged Millport.
With constant rain making the greens barely playable, two halved matches and a victory by Bolton and Reynolds in the foursomes was enough to give a morning lead of 2-1. Play was suspended for 1 1/2 hours in a forlorn hope for the incessant rain to cease. However after a brief respite, the rain continued to fall heavily. With several greens now submerged the afternoon singles were cancelled, leaving Argyll & Bute the winners on the strength of their lead in the foursomes.

CLACKMANNANSHIRE 1, NORTH-EAST 2

It was a similar story at Braehead where North-east took the morning foursomes 2-1 and were then declared the winners with that scoreline after the siix afternoon singles had to be abandoned as the course flooded.
Foursomes results (Clackmannanshire names first):
C Macaulay & R Benvie bt P McLean & M Halliday 2 and 1.
S Borrowman & I Ross lost to L Phillips & G Esson 1 hole.
M Crichton & S Horne lost to B Innes & T Mathieson 1 hole.

GROUP C

NORTH 5 1/2, STIRLINGSHIRE 3 1/2
Played at Nairn Golf Club.

GLASGOW 3, LOTHIANS 6

From Lothians website:

Trailing by 2 matches to 1 after the morning foursomes, Lothians staged a tremendous fightback by winning the singles 5-1 at a rain soaked Pollock Golf Club. Having won their foursomes, Scott Walker (West Linton) and Mark Hillson (Craigielaw) went on to maintain their 100% record in the afternoon.
Steven Armstrong (Turnhouse) and Shaun McAllister (Craigielaw) bounced back from a last green defeat in the morning to win the top two singles matches before Graham Turner (West Linton) came back from three down to snatch victory at the last hole.
Alexander Culverwell (Dunbar) took his singles match to the last green but was not quite able to grab a half point.
A great team effort in terrible conditions and a much closer match than the result suggests against a strong Glasgow team who made us fight all the way for our win.

GROUP D

ANGUS 5, DUNBARTONSHIRE 4
Played at Piperdam.
Angus came from behind to record a 5-4 victory.
Dunbartonshire took the foursomes 2-1 but could win only two of the singles.

Foursomes: R Coull & S Smith lost to K Smyth & P Betty 3 and 2; G Bell & C Heslip lost to G Yates & C Harper 1 hole; C Donaldson & R Bell bt C Checkley & M Williams 2 and 1 (1-2).
Singles: Coull bt Smyth 4 and 3, Smith bt Bertty 2 and 1, M Lindsay lost to Yates 4 and 3, G Bell bt Williams 6 and 5, Heslip bt Checkley 2 holes, R Bell lost to Harper 3 and 2 (4-2.

BORDERS 3 1/2, PERTH & KINROSS 5 1/2
Played at Kelso
