Low scoring over first two rounds at Haggs Castle
WALLACE BOOTH LEADS
AT HALFWAY STAGE OF
CAMERON CORBETT VASE
Tennant Cup winner Wallace Booth again showed his liking for Glasgow golf courses by leading the field at the halfway stage of the Cameron Corbett Vase 72-hole open tournament at Haggs Castle this evening.
Booth, pictured left, who shot a third-round 64 to sweep past overnight leader Craig Watson to win the Tennant Cup when the fourth and last round at Glasgow Killermont was washed out, again showed his capabilities for shooting low scores.
The Comrie man, who recently completed four years on the American college golf circuit as a student at Augusta State University, had rounds of 69 and 66 for a nine-under-par tally of 135 over the par-72 course. The CSS was 71 for the morning round and 72 for the afternoon.
But Booth has not shaken off the star-studded field. On his tail is Scott Henry (Cardross), who was first reserve for the Scotland squad of six for the European team championship at Western Gailes. Former Under-18 ace, Henry had scores of 67 and 69 to start Sunday's last two rounds in second place on 136.
Paul Betty (Hayston) and Robert McKnight (Kilmarnock Barassie) are sharing third place on 137, both with 68 and 69 to their credit.
Defending champion Glenn Campbell from Blairgowrie is joint 10th on 142 after a 72 and 70
Duncan Stewart (Grantown on Spey), last weekend's winner of the East of Scotland Open at Lundin Links and a leading qualifier for the Open Final Qualifying, went off the boil slightly with scores of 71 and 76 for 147.
Callum Macaulay (Tulliallan), last year's West of Scotland Open winner and runner-up to Stewart in the East of Scotland Open, had a better star with 72 and 70 for 142.
Players with totals of 150 and better qualified for the final two rounds.
