Scottish women's championship match-play

JENNA IN A HURRY IS THE FIRST TO REACH
QUARTER-FINALS AT BARASSIE

Top seed Jenna Walker from Strathaven was the first to reach the quarter-finals of the Scottish women's amateur championship at Kilmarnock Barassie this afternoon.
Jenna, 22, was three under par in beating Claire MacDonald (Gullane Ladies) by 6 and 4 in as second-round tie of about three hours' duration.
Miss Wilson, who had been one under par in a morning 5 and 4 win over Laura McLardy (Murcar Links), finished off the match against Claire in the grand manner with an eagle at the 12th and birdies at the 13th and 14th.
"I'm playing solid," said Jenna "and I've got past my bogey round - the second. The last two years I've lost in the second round of this championship. Now to try and beat my best ever performance which was reaching the quarter-finals in 2002 when I was only 17."
Martine Pow, the 42-year-old defending champion from Selkirk, had to settle for a 2 and 1 win over 16-year-old Rebecca Wilson despite winning four holes in a row from the sixth.
Rebecca won back the 13th and 15th to be only one down playing the 16th which was halved.
A birdie 4 at the 17th won a place in the last eight for Miss Pow who says this will be her last big tournament.
"I've got Health and Safety exams coming up in three weeks in connection with my job at our family scaffolding business," said Martine. "I'm happy with what I've achieved in golf and I feel now is the time to bow out and let the youngsters get on with it. I'm not going to defend the British mid-amateur title I won at Nairn last year."
Heather MacRae (Dunblane New) was roughly level par in beating Stirling University student Dawn Dewar (Monifieth) by 2 and 1. Dawn, playing irons off the tee, conceding a big advantage to Heather in length off the tee but she still led by one hole after seven.
Heather squared at the eighth and then took the ninth with a 4 to a 5 to lead for the first time.
A birdie at the long 12th, where she was home with an iron second, increased Miss MacRae's advantage to two holes.
Dawn came back to reduce the advantage to one but Heather clinched victory by winning the long 17th with an iron second to within 12ft of the flag.
Miss MacRae will not play former Scottish champion Elaine Moffat (St Regulus) who edged out the No 4 seed, 19-year-old Rachael Livingstone (Musselburgh Old). Elaine was three up after six holes but needed that lead in the end because Rachael came back at her by winning the eighth and the 11th.
Miss Moffat went two up again at the 13th but lost the 17th after a bad drive.
