GEMMA AND TARA BEST OF GB&I
PLAYERS UP MICHIGAN WAY

British and Irish players did not have a particularly good first day in the NCAA Division 1 women's Central Regional championship over the University of Michigan's Par-71 course (6,116yd) at Ann Arbor.
Ireland international Tara Delaney (Kent State) and Scotland cap Gemma Webster (Ohio State) did best of the bunch - and they were back in a share of 31st place in a field of 107 on the four-over-par 75 mark.
Tara had halves of 40 and 35, Gemma, also starting at the 10th, bogeyed the 12th, 15th, 16th and 17th and then parred holes one to nine.
England's Hannah Burke and Sian Reddick, both students at Baylor University, Texas, had rounds of 77 and 83 respectively. Hannah was in a share of 56th place. She had a double bogey 5 at the short 12th and no birdies.
Tara Delaney's sister Karen at an 82.
Jacqui Concolino (Vanderbilt) led the field with a 67.
The three players on 68 included Belen Mozo (Southern California), the Spaniard who won both the British girls and women's open amateur titles in Northern Ireland last summer.
Southern California (283) lead the team event from Texas Christian and Indiana, both on 289.
