TO WIN NICK FALDO QUALIFER
AT BLAIRGOWRIE
Surrey youngster Tom Hayes made the long trip from West Byfleet to Blairgowrie to take part in the First Scottish qualifying round of the Nick Faldo Junior Series today – and it was a journey that paid off.
Tom won the boys’ Under-21 years section with a round of 71, one shot ahead of Lothians champion Zander Culverwell (Dunbar), pictured right, who will start a golf scholarship at Minnesota University in the autumn.
Michael Daily (Erskine) had two shots to spare in the Under-18s with a 72.
Adam Dunton (McDonald Ellon) and Fraser McKenna (Balmore) tied for victory in the Under-17s with 76 apiece.
Aberdeen youngster David Law, who plays at the municipal Hazlehead course), won the Under-16s section with a 73.
Perth boy Ian Redford (King James VI) claimed victory in the Under-15s with a 76.
And in the all-age girls’ category, Cara Easton (Dalmahoy), Scottish Under-14 girls’ champion in 2005, pipped Jill Meldrum (Dullatur), last year’s Scottish Under-14 title-winner, with an 84 to oan 85.
The 2nd Scottish qualifying round will be played at The Carrick on Loch Lomond on May 28. The Scottish final of the Nick Faldo Series will be held at The Roxburghe on August 23.
