STENSON HOLES
BIRDIE PUTT AT
LAST TO WIN
DESERT CLASSIC
Swedish Ryder Cup player Henrik Stenson holed a 10ft birdie putt at the last hole today to win the Dubai Desert Classic by one shot from Ernie Els of South Africa.

Stenson, pictured right, had a final round of 68 for a 19-under-par total of 269 at the Emirates Golf Club.
Els, beaten in a play-off by Tiger Woods last year, finished with a 71 for 270.

Niclas Fasth (Sweden) and Woods (who was reputed to have been paid $2million in appearance money), tied for third place on 271.

Tiger was tied for the lead at the turn but then bogeyed the 10th and 11th. Three successive birdies from the 13th brought him back into contention and though he added another on the 18th it was too little too late.

Woods finished a three-under-par 69, 17-under overall.
Englishman Ross Fisher, who led the field on the first day, played the final round with Woods and ended a great week with a fifth place finish after a birdie 4 at the last hole.
Colin Montgomerie finished with a 69 for 276 and joint 10th place. A shot behind on 277 came fellow Scot Andrew Coltart for his highest finish in a European Tour event for some time.
