CHARLES CHURCH SCOTTISH SENIORS OPEN
TORRANCE AND GALLACHER HEAD CAST OF FORMER
RYDER CUP STARS AT DALMAHOY
Former Ryder Cup Captains Sam Torrance and Bernard Gallacher have both confirmed their participation in the Charles Church Scottish Seniors Open 2006, which returns to Marriott Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club from September 1-3.
At close of entries this week the field included a total of nine past Ryder Cup stars, with Maurice Bembridge, Gordon J Brand, Neil Coles, Eamonn Darcy, Antonio Garrido, Eddie Polland and José Rivero joining Torrance and Gallacher in the hunt for the lion’s share of a £200,000 prize fund.
Torrance and Gallacher, who between them have won 60 professional tournaments worldwide, will also spearhead a ‘home’ challenge that includes fellow Scots, Bill Longmuir, the 2004 Charles Church Scottish Seniors Open winner, John Chillas, Martin Gray and Mike Miller.
On the last occasion that Marriott Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club hosted the Scottish Seniors Open, in 2000, the spectators were treated to a spectacular final day display from Australian Noel Ratcliffe, who produced a seven under par 65 to come from seven strokes off the lead to win.
Despite Ratcliffe’s brilliance and the victory by England’s Neil Coles - the current Chairman of the European Tour Group - in 1999, the most popular winner associated with Dalmahoy has to be David Huish, the Edinburgh-born professional who beat Northern Ireland’s David Jones in a thrilling play-off to capture the title in 1998.
Longmuir became the second Scotsman to win his national seniors open when he triumphed at The Roxburghe Hotel & Golf Course, Kelso, in 2004, while his compatriot Chillas has twice gone close, missing out by a shot that year and finishing tied third in 2003.
Defending champion this September will be England’s Nick Job, who closed with a one under par 71 to beat Jean-Pierre Sallat of France by a stroke at The Roxburghe last year.
Tickets to the Charles Church Scottish Seniors Open 2006 can be purchased by calling the ticket hotline on 01344 840407. Purchases made before Friday August 25 will receive a 50 per cent reduction off the full ticket price of £20 for a season pass and £10 for a daily ticket. Tickets may also be purchased on the gate and car parking is included in the price.
Under 16s will be admitted free of charge, if accompanied by an adult
