ANNE LAING JT FIFTH IN IRELAND

MARTINA GILLEN WINS IRISH OPEN STROKE-PLAY

 

 

Three times Scottish champion Anne Laing (Vale of Leven) was the leading Scot in the Irish women’s open amateur golf championship won by Martina Gillen (Beaverstown) at County Sligo Golf Club today.

Anne finished joint fifth with rounds of 80, 77 and 75 for 232 – eight shots behind Miss Gillen.

Krystle Caithness (St Regulus) and Emily Ogilvy (Auchterarder) did well to finish joint seventh on 235 in a strong field.

Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle), showing her best form of of the season, was a shot behind them and Sara Bishop (Windyhill) finished on 237.

Crieff teenager Roseanne Niven came 17^th on 240

Ireland's Tara Delaney (Carlow), bidding to win the title an historic third time in a row, finished a creditable third on 228, one shot behind runner-up Deirdrie Smith (Co Louth).
