SURREY MAN CLEAR AT CRAIGIELAW

MCGOWAN LEADS BY THREE AT HALFWAY
STAGE IN SCOTTISH AMATEUR STROKE-PLAY

Ross McGowan from Surrey led the field by three shots at the halfway stage of the Scottish men's open amateur championship at Craigielaw today.
McGowan repeated his opening 68 for a six-under-par tally of 136. He leads by three shots from Motherwell youngster Ross Kellett who had a superb second-round 65 for 139.
Wallace Booth from Comrie via the United States did even better. He shot a 64, 12 shots better than his first-day score.

WOLSTENHOLME AND NORWEGIAN TIE IN
EUROPEAN MID-AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Walker Cup veteran Gary Wolstenholme from Kilworth Springs tied with Norwegian Jakob Thomsen for the European men's mid-amateur championship after 54 holes at Grand Ducal Golf Club, Luxemburg today.
They shot identical 18-hole scores of 73, 70 and 67 for three-under-par 210.
Under the rules of the championship, they were due to meet in a sudden-death play-off. There was no immediate news of the outcome of the play-off.
There were three Englishman in the leading four places. Roger Roper from Wyke Ridge, Leeds had 73, 68 and 72 for 213.
Paul Griffiths (Sandwell Park) finished fourth on 214 with 73, 71 and 70.
Devon-based Scot Craig Townsend (Teignmouth) finished 83rd on 235 with scores of 83, 76 and 76.
