Top-class field for European Ladies’ Amateur

Parkstone-

Top women golfers from around the world will head to Parkstone in Dorset next week for the European Ladies’ Amateur Championship.
It’s one of the biggest titles in the world of women’s amateur golf and the champion will win a place in the AIG Women’s British Open at Woburn at the beginning of August.
The championship - played over 72 holes from July 24 to 27 - has attracted a top-class entry from players from 30 different countries.
There will be a strong England challenge, led by world class players such as Lily May Humphreys, who has won three times already this season and Annabell Fuller, a winner in the USA.
They’re among a host of GB&I internationals in the field, such as the England trio of India Clyburn, Alice Hewson and Bel Wardle, alongside Ireland’s Paula Grant, and the Scots pair, Hazel MacGarvie and Shannon McWilliam.
Among those from further afield who will aim to make a mark are Italian Stroke Play Champion Alessio Nobilio; Emma Spitz of Austria and Emilie Paltrinieri of Italy, who have both been British Girls’ Champion; and María Fernanda Escauriza of Paraguay, the South American Amateur champion.

They’ll be challenged by Parkstone’s heathland course which features lakes and mature pines, with panoramic views over Poole Harbour to Brownsea Island and the coastal downs of the Isle of Purbeck.
It’s a club which is already closely aligned with top-class women’s golf. Georgia Hall, who will defend her Women’s British Open title at Woburn, played at Parkstone as an amateur and is now an honorary member. Six other women have won international championships over the years in a remarkable roll of honour.
Parkstone is only the second English club to host the European Ladies’ Amateur Championship. The other was Formby, Lancashire, in 1997.
Three England players have won the title: Bronte Law in 2016, Emma Duggleby (now Brown) in 2000 and Joanne Morley in 1992.
