ROUND 3 REPORT FROM BRITISH MASTERS AT HILLSIDE G C

Round three report
England’s Matt Wallace shares the lead with Sweden’s Marcus Kinhult going into the final round of the Betfred British Masters, with tournament host Tommy Fleetwood well-placed just three shots back at Hillside Golf Club.
Kinhult posted a four under par round of 68 to set the clubhouse target of 14 under par, which was then matched by four-time European Tour winner Wallace who signed for a round of 70.
Wallace had held a one stroke overnight lead and quickly extended that advantage when he started his third round with three consecutive birdies. A further gain on the 11th hole meant took his run of holes without a bogey to 47, but that impressive streak ended with bogey on the 12th before a double bogey six on the 15th.
Kinhult, who had earlier eagled the 11th hole, also double bogeyed the 15th before posting back-to-back birdies on the 16th and 17th holes, while Wallace also birdied the 17th to join the him at the top of the leaderboard heading into the final day.
Scotland’s Richie Ramsay is two shots back on 12 under par after a round of 71 and his compatriot Robert MacIntyre is a further shot adrift following a 68.
MacIntyre shares fourth place with Southport favourite Fleetwood, the tournament host who delighted the sell-out crowd of 17,204 with a back nine charge to ignite his challenge.
The Ryder Cup star was one over par for the day heading to the 11th tee, but eagled that hole and added birdies on the 12th, 14th and 17th for a round of 68 to move firmly into contention on 11 under par, three strokes behind Wallace and Kinhult.
Player quotes
Matt Wallace: "I was trying to take a little note out of Tiger's book, and try and let them try and catch you, but I probably hit two bad shots today, and that's it and that's what happens in golf. I'm pretty happy with how I handled myself out there today.
“I’m obviously frustrated with dropping a couple on the 15th hole. But I think I showed a little bit different character there to not let it affect me too much and then step up on the next hole, which is tough. If you miss that green right, you're stuffed, and I put it to a good length and played the last three holes really nicely. It would have been nice to have holed that putt on the last, but I would have taken 2-under at the start of the day, seeing how windy it was. We are in great shape. It's not about winning it on Saturday, it's about putting yourself in good position, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow now.”
Marcus Kinhult: "It was tough in the wind today but I managed to post a good score, so I'm happy. I won the Lytham Trophy a few years ago and it is just right around the corner. I just like to be here. I like how the course is set up. You have to manage your game a little bit different. t's a tight leaderboard. But it's always nice to be in the lead. I will enjoy it tomorrow.”
Tommy Fleetwood: "I've been a bit slow, really, for two and half days pretty much. That front nine, I didn't do much as I started and good to get something going on the back. A little goal was to give them something to cheer about 11 and 12 got that going a little bit. I hit a poor putt on 9 and 10 a little bit of a silly three-putt. Didn't feel like I did too much wrong on either of them and then yeah, the finish was great.

It's been brilliant, hasn't it. I know I've got another day to play but already I'm just very, very grateful to everybody that's been involved in the event and made this a great spectacle. It's been fantastic and I've got another day of golf left and I'll focus on it a bit tomorrow, but it has been a very special week.”
