REPORT FROM CAMERON McLAY

Slovenia’s Pia Babnik continued her good form on Day 2 at the 2019 Helen Holm Scottish Women’s Open with a three-under-par round of 69 at  Troon Portland today.
Babnik, who is currently seeking a spot in Europe’s PING Junior Solheim Cup Team, remained consistent to extend her lead over the 120-strong field, to three strokes.
Speaking to Scottish Golf ahead of Sunday’s final round on the testingRoyal Troon Old Course, Babnik was delighted with her second sub-par round of the week, saying:
“It was another good round for me today, not as many birdies as yesterday, but I am still really happy with the score. This tournament has been really enjoyable in such lovely, almost summer weather.”
Sitting five shots behind Babnik, Shannon McWilliam is the top Scot after 36 holes. Speaking to Scottish Golf following a bogey-free back nine, which also included four birdies, McWilliam was pleased with how she played, saying:
“I played pretty solid on the back nine today, I had eagle putts on 11 and 12 that didn’t drop but overall I am quite happy with the way I finished my round.”
McWilliam is one of five Scots inside the top 10 and with 18 holes left to play, the Torphins-based
youngster and Aboyne Golf Club member is looking forward to playing in one of the final groups on Sunday.
“I am looking forward to playing Royal Troon Old Course. All I can do is go out there and give it my best shot. It will be an exciting day.”
Sunday’s final group will include all the way leader Slovenia’s Pia Babnik, Finland’s Emilia Tukiainen and France’s Charlotte Bunel.
