Cara Thompson back in form with biggest match-play win
of Strathtyrum tournament first round
Royal Dornoch's Cara Thompson, the third highest qualifier after leading at the end of the first qualifying round, returned to form today (Wed) with the biggest winning margin of the first round of match-play in the Strathtyrum Tournament at St Andrews.
Cara, who plays off scratch and has won the Northern Counties women's championship several times, beat Liz Ward, an 11-handicap member of the Woburn club, by 8 and 6.
Fiona Norris (Hamilton) lost at the 19th to Sweden's Josefin Nordgren.
Top seed Martine Pow (Selkirk), a former British women's mid-amateur champion and Scottish champion in 2006, won her opening match by 4 and 2 against Kate Evans (Frilford Heath).
