SUCCESS FOR DUNBLANE NEW and KENMORE AT DAY 1 OF SCOTTISH GOLF/R and A 9-HOLE CHAMPIONSHIP

 NEWS RELEASE
The first two of four teams have qualified to play Carnoustie ahead of the 147th Open Championship following the opening day of the Scottish Golf R and A 9-Hole Championship at Milnathort

The teams from Dunblane New Golf Club (Richard McCluckie and Gary Aitken) and Kenmore Golf Club (William Hill and Chris Spittal) topped the table today with 35 and 34 pts respectively. The Kenmore duo pipped third-placed Torwoodlee Golf Club on a count back of the best last six holes and they will be joined at Carnoustie for that money-can’t-buy experience by Friday’s top two pairings.

Another big field will be vying for the remaining two spots on the final day on Friday to win the prize of playing at Carnoustie in The R and A’s 9-Hole Championship days before The 147th Open Championship.

Kenny Duncan, the Captain at Milnathort said “It’s a great honour for the club to host this event. It’s a terrific feather in the cap for Milnathort and we’re all over the moon.

“People have a misconception sometimes about 9-hole courses, that they are maybe inferior due to a lack of variety. Overall, our course offers the perfect mix of challenge and forgiveness for golfers of all ages and abilities. It may be a little shorter than other courses, but it’s tighter, so you have to be careful with club selection.”

As Scottish Golf continues to encourage shorter formats of the game, each affiliated club in Scotland was invited to host a 9-hole qualifying event during the early part of the season, with the winning pair from each club earning their place at Milnathort this week.
