CARNOUSTIE CALLING FOR HUNDREDS OF CLUB GOLFERS

AT SCOTTISH GOLF R and A 9-HOLE CHAMPIONSHIP

The Scottish Golf R and A 9-Hole Championship takes place at Milnathort tomorrow and Friday, with 270 players competing for a chance to tee up at Carnoustie ahead of the 147th Open.

Milnathort Golf Club, in the stunning Perthshire hills, will play host to club golfers from all over Scotland in the finals of a championship which runs across two days on Thursday and Friday.

They’ll be vying for the top two spots on each of the final days to win the opportunity of a lifetime of playing at Carnoustie in The R and A’s 9-Hole Championship days before The 147th Open Championship.

As Scottish Golf continues to encourage shorter formats of the game, each affiliated club in Scotland was invited to host a 9-hole qualifying event during the early part of the season, with the winning pair from each club earning their place at Milnathort this week.

Andrew McKinlay, CEO of Scottish Golf, said: “Scotland has 145 nine-hole courses, while many others have a 9-hole Standard Scratch Score. What this Championship gives us is a fantastic platform to showcase what the country has to offer.

“We are keen to encourage the shorter format of the game to give those with time constraints more opportunities to play competitive golf. It’s great to see more and more clubs embrace this and there is no better incentive than the chance to play in front of The Open stands.”
