World No 1 Dustin Johnson will make a surprise first-round exit from the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, where Rory McIlroy kept his qualification hopes alive.
Johnson followed his opening-day loss to Bernd Wiesberger with a 4 and 3 defeat to 38th seed Adam Hadwin at Austin Country Club, meaning the defending champion cannot progress from Group 1.
Results and fixtures
The 33-year-old never trailed at any point in last year's event as he became the first player to win all four World Golf Championship titles, but now faces a dead-rubber against Kevin Kisner on Friday.
