Chris Robb runs up a 10 on his way

to an 80 Germany

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Former Scottish amateur champion Chris Robb (Meldrum House), in the first-round mix with a 66, nosedived out of contention with a TEN at the par-4 fourth hole in the second round of the Pro Golf Tour's Castanea Resort Championship at Adendorf, Germany today.

Robb, pictured, finished with an 80, having only one birdie in halves of 41-39, and his two-over-par tally of 146 has dropped him to a share of 44th place, 14 strokes behind the German amateur leader Max Schmitt (64-68 for 132).
Portlethen's Sam Kiloh (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) also had one disastrous hole but he limited the damaged to a triple bogey 7 at the 15th  in a 73 for 140 and joint 19th place with a round to go.
Peterhead's Philip McLean shot four birdies in improving from a 75 to a 70 for 145 and joint 40th placer.
Alexander Culverwell (Dunbar), another past Scottish amateur champion is joint 47th on 147 (74-73).
Schmitt leads by four shots from another German, Jonas Kilbing (64-72 for 136).

Currie hot stuff as he swoops to conquer

with seven-birdie 65 at Deer Park

By COLIN FARQUHARSON

Chris Currie, in the last trio off the tee, fired a seven-birdie, bogey-free round of 65 for a 12-under-par total of 132 to avert the possibility of a play-off between the clubhouse leaders, Greig Hutcheon (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre Inchmarlo) and Michael Patterson (Kilmacolm), and win the £1,100 first prize outright in the St Andrews Brewing Company's £7,000 36-hole Order of Merit competition at Deer Park Golf and Country Club, Livingston.

The Caldwell Golf Club, Renfrewshire tour pro, pictured with Deer Park director of golf Alan Tait (on left),who had eight birdies but three bogeys in his opening round of 67, eliminated the mistakes on the second day and won by two strokes from Hutcheon (69-65) and Patterson (69-65) who earned £775 apiece.
Hutcheon had eight birdies in his second round and was four under par for his last seven holes.
Patterson had seven birdies in his bogey-free closing halves of 31 and 34.
Paul O'Hara (North Lanarkshire Leisure) gained the fourth place prize of £625 with rounds of 68 and 67 for 135.
Halfway leader Callum Nairn (Kilmarnock Barassie) with a 66, faded to a second-round 74 for 140 and joint ninth place. An error-strewn run of bogey, double-bogey, bogey at the 14th, 15th and short 16th for an inward 39 killed off his hopes.
