Duncan McNeill hits form with a 68 in second

round at Poppy Hills, California

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Duncan McNeill, from Annan, a student at Toledo University, shot one of his best ever scores on the US college golf circuit when he returned a three-under-par 68 in the second round of the current Saint Mary's Invitational tournament at Poppy Hills Golf Club, Pebble Beach in California. Duncan is pictured below.

Duncan's round, eight shots better than his first-round effort, was studded with birdies at the seventh, 11th, 13th, 17th and 18th, offset by bogeys at the sixth and 10th in halves of 35-33, giving him a 36-hole tally of two-over 144 and a T33 placing with one round to go.'
Toledo team-mate and fellow Scot Joseph Bryce from Bathgate had a 72 for 145 and is now T40 in a field of 100 competitors. Bryce, pictured below, birdied the second and 18th but dropped shots to par at the fifth, sixth and 14th.
Southern California have players in first and second places, Justin Suh (67-66 for 133) and Kaito Onishi (73-63), so not surprising that Southern Cal lead the team title with a tally of 555, but only by one stroke over Stanford. St Mary's (California) are in third place on 565.
Toledo (576) are ninth in a field of 18 teams.
