Lamb’s birdie blitz nets BIGGA National titleChris Lamb, who plays off +4 of a handicap at Newmachar Golf Club and is a greenkeeper at Trump International, Balmedie, has won the BIGGA (British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association) national golf championship at Verulam Golf Club, St Albans near London.
Two birdies over the final three holes helped Chris to win the title with a four-under-par total of 140, made up of rounds of 71 and three-under 69.
With four holes to play, Lamb, the overnight leader,  he sat one shot behind the eventual runner-up Tom Workman, of Minchinhampton
The 23-year-old Scot then drove the par 4 16th and just missed his eagle putt with a tap-in birdie to lead by one shot and then he knocked it to two feet on the par 3 17th and again holed for birdie for a two-shot lead and then he parred the par 5 18th to win by three shots.
Lamb had seven birdies in all in his final round.
He has now won both the Scottish and British Bigga championships this year, having won the Scottish at Musselburgh a couple of months ago
Said his father Robert: "Chris is well chuffed. He holds the trophy for a year and won a £500 voucher and will look forward to trying to retain it next year when it comes to Gullane."
