Stewart 69, Franssen 72 in Jack Rabbit Invitational first round at Nebraska

Jamie Stewart (Old Ranfurly) and Rory Franssen from Inverness - both students at the University of Missouri - were joint 13th and 43rd respectively in a field of 81 competitors at the end of the first round of the Jack Rabbit Invitational college tournament at Prairie Club, Valentine in the state of Nebraska.

Stewart, pictured right, shot a three-under-par 69 for a longish course of 7,239yd and Franssen had the proverbial "game of two halves" in compiling a par 72.
He birdies the fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and 10th to be five under par on the 11th tee. But that hole cost Rory a double bogey 6 folley by a bogey at the 12th.
Franssen, pictured left, chalked up his sixth birdie of the round at the 13th but then came off the rails again with a double bogey 7 at the par-5 15th and a bogey 4 at the short 16th for contrasting halves of 32 out and 40 back.
Leading the field by one stroke is Haydn Shieh (Santa Clark) with an eight-under 64 which included 10 birdies and two bogeys.
