English amateur finalists both in Home Internationals team
New English amateur champion Todd Clements and runner-up, Jack Gaunt, are among the 11 players selected for the England team for next week’s Home Internationals at Moortown, Yorkshire.
Clements, from Essex, and Gaunt, from Staffordshire, will be joined by: Jake Burnage of Devon, pictured; Dan Brown, David Hague and Will Whiteoak of Yorkshire; Josh Hilleard and Tom Sloman of Somerset; Matthew Jordan of Cheshire; Bradley Moore of Derbyshire and Gian-Marco Petrozzi of Staffordshire.
The team will take on the challenge of Ireland, Scotland and Wales as they bid to regain the Raymond Trophy, which they last won at Ganton, Yorkshire, in 2013. Since then, Ireland have been the champions.
The round robin matches will be played from Wednesday to Friday, 16-18 August. On the first day Ireland will take on Wales while England will play Scotland.
Moortown has a world world-wide reputation as a championship course. The club hosted the first Ryder Cup tournament on British soil in 1929 and over the following decades has hosted over fifty professional and major amateur events.

Jake Burnage, 22 (Saunton, Devon), won the South of England amateur and the Hampshire Hog, on the way to taking second place in the Hampshire Salver. He was joint runner-up in the Brabazon Trophy and third in the Lytham Trophy and had top tens in the Biarritz Cup, the Grand Prix de Chiberta and the Berkshire Trophy. Dan Brown, 22, (Masham, Yorkshire) was the 2016 English amateur champion and has been on good form all season, tying third in the South African stroke play, taking sixth place in the Brabazon Trophy and 13th in the European amateur. He was in the England team which beat Spain in the biennial international.
Todd Clements, 20, (Braintree, Essex) became the new English amateur championship on Sunday. He set a course record seven-under 66 on the Hotchkin course at Woodhall Spa during the 2017 Brabazon Trophy and has had good results in the Lytham Trophy, St Andrews Links Trophy and the European Amateur.
Jack Gaunt, 25, (Drayton Park, Staffordshire) was runner up in the English amateur and also in the Welsh open amateur. He has had consistently high finishes in 2017 events including the South of England amateur, the Scottish men’s open, the Hampshire Salver and the Brabazon Trophy.
David Hague, 21, (Malton & Norton, Yorkshire) won the Lagonda Trophy, was runner-up in the West of England championship, third in the Berkshire Trophy and eighth in the Brabazon Trophy. Earlier in the season he tied sixth in the Hampshire Salver. He reached the last 32 in the English amateur.
Josh Hilleard, 22, (Farrington Park, Somerset), won the French Open in a play-off, and tied fourth in the Irish men’s open and had high finishes in the Lytham Trophy, Hampshire Salver and African amateur. He was in England’s silver medal-winning side at the European team championship.
Matthew Jordan, 21, (Royal Liverpool, Cheshire) won the St Andrews Links Trophy, and was runner-up in the Scottish open and in the qualifying rounds of the European team championship, where England went on to win the silver medal. He also had top ten finishes in the Irish open, Brabazon Trophy, Lytham Trophy and European amateur.
Gian-Marco Petrozzi, 20, (Trentham, Staffordshire) won the Welsh open by nine shots and has had top tens in the Portuguese amateur and the St Andrews Links Trophy. He was in the England side which won the silver medal at the European team championships and reached the last 16 in the English amateur.
Tom Sloman, 20, (Taunton & Pickeridge, Somerset) won the U21 Dutch Junior Open. He was runner up in the Irish stroke play, 10th in the Welsh and third in the Bernard Darwin Salver. He reached the last 32 in the Amateur Championship and was a semi-finalist in the English amateur.
Will Whiteoak, 23, (Shipley, Yorkshire) was England’s top scorer in the Costa Ballena match against Italy, Germany and Spain, winning all six of his matches. He was runner-up in the Tillman Trophy and has had a string of top tens in events including the Welsh stroke play, the Lytham Trophy and the Hampshire Salver.
Bradley Moore, 19, (Kedleston Park, Derbyshire) reached the last 16 in the English amateur and was in England’s winning team in this year’s international against Spain. Individual results include top tens in the French Open and the prestigious Avondale Amateur in Australia.
