Oriol takes one shot lead at Royal Waterloo

EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Pedro Oriol shrugged off the distraction of a two-and-a-half hour early morning rain delay at Royal Waterloo Golf Club to take a one-shot lead of the KPMG Trophy at the halfway point in Belgium.
The Spaniard’s bogey-free second round of eight-under-par 64 was the best of the day and took him to 11 under par 133 for the tournament, ahead of Estanislao Goya and Francesco Laporta who share second place going into the weekend.
Oriol has shown intermittent form this year, a top 15 finish in the Open de Portugal at Morgado Golf Resort his best result, so he was understandably delighted with his performance over the first two days in Belgium.
“It was a perfect round for me,” said the 30 year old. “I made no mistakes, I had eight birdies and no bogeys, so I really had fun out there today.
“The course offers a lot of opportunities. Three of the par fives are reachable and there are a couple of par fours that you can drive too, but there are also tricky holes, especially in the wind, so I’m happy with how I did.

Laporta did not drop a shot all day either, the Italian’s 65 taking him to ten under parw 134 alongside Argentinian Goya, who had his first top ten finish for a year at the D+D REAL Czech Challenge two weeks ago.
Behind them are Askel Olsen and Ashton Turner on nine under par, with Matthew Cort, Gavin Moynihan and Jordan Zunic continuing their good recent form one shot further back in a tie for sixth place.
Kevin Hesbois is the best of the Belgians on home soil, a second successive round of 69 taking him to six under par, while three of his compatriots made the cut, which fell on two under par – including amateur Giovanni Tadiotto.
