Bill Erskine wins Super Seniors summer meeting at Stirling with 73-74

The Scottish Seniors Golfing Society held their first "Super Seniors" summer meeting at Stirling this week.  This event was held for the benefit of SSGS members aged 65 and over, who perhaps feel that they cannot compete with the "young boys" in the main events.

Thirty-six competitors took part in sunny, but windy conditions. Bill Erskine (Kilsyth Lennox) won with a creditable three-over-par total of 147 (73, 74). Wilson Morton (Dunbar) came second on 150 (77, 73), with Ken Thomson (Bramall Park) third on 152 (74, 78).

Erskine led by one shot after the first round with a one over par 73.  He birdied the 8th and 17th but dropped shots at the 3rd, 7th and 10th. In the second round Erskine bogeyed the 3rd, 4th, 8th and 9th, but birdies at the 5th and 6th limited the damage on the front nine to a 2 over par 38. 
He was much steadier on the back nine with a bogey at the 14th being cancelled out by a birdie at the 18th, for an inward half of 36 and a total of 74.

Wilson Morton had the worst possible start to his second round taking a double bogey 7 at the first hole.  He recovered well to birdie the 2nd and 13th, but a bogey the 17th gave him a one over par 73 to add to his opening 77. 

However, Morton did have the consolation of tying for first place in the handicap section with David Nelson (Aboyne) on 142.
