Matty Lamb's top 10 finish at Texarkana


TEXARKANA - The back nine of the Texarkana Country Club golf course, Arkansas was the breakaway point for the University of Texas-El Paso men's golf team as they pulled away from their tie with North Texas to take sole possession of first place in the final round of stroke play at the Conference USA Men's Golf Championships and the top seed status going into Tuesday's match play.
The Miners shot 15-over 879 (287-294-298) to best North Texas, who came in second with 19-over 883 (283-297-303) and third place Charlotte, who shot 28-over 892 (289-292-311).
Middle Tennessee and Southern Miss tied for fourth with 29-over 893 and will battle in a one-hole play-off for the fourth and final spot in the match-play finale of the tournament.
The play-off winners will face UTEP while Charlotte and North Texas will compete in the other semi-final, with the winners battling for the C-USA team championship.

Charlotte senior Seth Gandy fired a 2-under 214 (67-71-76) to take individual medallist honours.
Team-mate Matty Lamb (pictured above) from Hexham finished a creditable T7 on 220 with rounds of 70, 73 and 77.
Stuart Easton (Western Kentucky) from Irvine, Ayrshire shot 72-78-76 for T27 on 226.
Edinburgh's Murray Naysmith (Alabama-Birmingham) finished T42 on 233 with rounds of 75, 79 and 79.
Dublin's Conor Purcell (Charlotte) had scores of 81, 75 and 82 for 238 and a T53 finish.
Tim Harry (Alabama-Birmingham) from Glamorgan had to withdraw after an opening round of 77.
Texas El-Paso (879) won the team title ahead of North Texas (883) with Charlotte (892) third and Western Kentucky (910), 10th of 13 teams.
