Continuing our look back at Scotland v England youth international matches of yesteryear
When Fraser Urquhart made his debut for Scotland youths and won singles tie 5 and 4
By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Pannal Golf Club, Yorkshire, was the venue for the third time in four years of the 1962 youth international between England and Scotland.
The Scots line-up, which included Fraser Urquhart (Inverness), pictured below in 2013, could not keep up its winning sequence although it was a closely-fought match that ended with England winning 9.5 to 8.5.
That one-point advantage gained by the English in the foursomes (3.5 to 2.5) proved to be decisive overall as the singles were shared 6-6.
Urquhart, partnered by Liberton's J K Tait, lost by 3 and 2 in the foursomes but the Inverness man had a 5 and 4 win in the singles.
Fraser kept his place for the 1963 youth international at Pollok .. but more of that tomorrow!
