 Martin McNae wins Douglas Maxwell

  Memorial Trophy at Kirkcudbright

Thirty-three of the top golfers in the area  competed over 36 holes for the Douglas Maxwell Memorial Trophy at Kirkcudbright Golf Club.
Playing in excellent sunny conditions with very little wind on a well prepared course the players provided an interesting and exciting conclusion to the championship ceason.
Local players Kevin Morrison (Kbt) (68-04-64) and Callum McMillan (Kbt) (72-06-66) finished first and second in the handicap championship.
In the scratch competition it was looking good for Clark Riddick (73+69 = 142) until the last pairing of Martin McNae (Lochmaben) and Michael Grunwell (Dumfries and Galloway) recorded their second round scores of 70 and 71 respectively, meaning that McNae won the Douglas Maxwell Trophy with a score of 68+70-138, one point ahead of Grunwell (68+71-139) and Riddick third.
The championship reverted to its original format of 36 holes which was first played in 1976.
Kirkcudbrightshire Golf Association president Jean Forrest paid tribute to the standard of the players, the excellent condition of the Kirkcudbright course and to those involved in organising a successful championship.
