Ed Wood to play Gordon Yates in Lanarkshire final this evening at Hamilton 

Former match-play winner Ed Wood of Crow Wood will play Gordon Yates of Colville Park in tonight’s Lanarkshire Men’s Matchplay Final.

Both players came through last night’s semi finals on the last green with the final putt. Dominic Dougan of Airdrie had gone out in three under par to hold a one hole lead over Ed Wood however three birdies in the back nine turned the game in Ed’s favour and a tricky four footer at the last for par put him in the final.  

Gordon Yates game with Hamilton number two greenkeeper Brian Scott  was equally close and they came down the last hole level.  Brian knocked his shot to about 20 feet but Gordon rose to the occasion by hitting a great 52 wedge to three feet to clinch the winning birdie!!

The final will be tonight at 5.30. Thanks to Hamilton Golf club for hosting the strokeplay and matchplay events. Course has been excellent.
