Renfrewshire wins boys' match v Stirlingshire
Renfrewshire boys' golf team, pictured above, started the defence of the West League title
with a convincing 6-2 win against Stirlingshire at Dunblane New Golf Club.
After the mixed
weather conditions of the past few days they were greeted with a course covered
in sunshine and in superb condition.
Renfrewshire
fielded three new players in the Under-16 section of the team, together with more
experienced players in the Under18’s.
Taking into
account the fact that none of them had played the course before, the result was
even more encouraging for the team managers, Graham McGee and Lyall Campbell.
It took a while
for the boys to settle and as the games passed the eighth hole it was very close.
However, a change
in fortunes as the games closed out saw the Renfrewshire boys turn the
situation in their favour, with most producing their best golf in the latter
stages.
It is worth
noting that four of the games went to the last hole but none of these was lost by
the Renfrewshire boys, so well done to them for sticking to the task.
