Four Scots in top 10 as Calum Fyfe leads
Welsh stroke play with a 66
By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Four Scots in the top 10, including leader Calum Fyfe from Cawder, represented an excellent start by the "Tartan Army" of competitors from north of the Border at the Welsh men's open amateur 72-hole stroke-play championship at Royal St David's Golf Club, Harlech.
Fyfe had five birdies as he posted a three-under-par 66 early in the day and by the end of it, the Scot's score was still there at the top of the leaderboard.
He leads by one from a pack of six players on 67, including compatriots Barry Hume (Haggs Castle) and Will Porter (Carnoustie).
Nairn's Sandy Scott is tied eighth on the 68 mark and Chris Maclean (Balmore) is just outside the top 10 with a 69.
North competitors had mixed fortunes.
Apart from Scott, Jeff Wright (Forres) had a 72, Kyle Godsman (Moray) a 73, Stephen Roger (Cruden Bay) a 74, Jack Harling (Banchory) a 77, Rory Franssen (Inverness) a 78 and Jordan Shaw (Boat of Garten) a 79.
