This year Montrose embarks on the beginning of a three-year educational programme to help the little ones create their legacy from an early age, learning about all areas of the game of golf in a fun yet educational format. In order to carry this out, the R and A has awarded Jason Boyd (pictured above), Montrose Links' PGA head professional £3,000 over the next three years, to encourage and create a youthful interest and growth to the the area.
Boyd says:
“This funding will help us focus on the children who are interested in sport but not sure about golf, we can take time to teach them all areas from the green keeping to the coaching and everything in between to make them part of the sport and understand it as well as enjoy it and gain the lifeskills the game can offer”Working alongside the primary schools there are a series of educational classes as well as seasonal programmes to allow children to experience the sport inside and out of school time.Jill Smith, a teacher involved in the programme says:
“Children are able to develop their literacy, numeracyand social skills through engaging in a range of carefully planned, stimulating educational experiences which stemmed from the experiences and outcomes contained within a curriculum for excellence.
"It was super to see Jason actively engaging the children in the evaluation of their experience and using their voice to planfuture lessons”Overall Jason Boyd’s vision is to create a development plan that is progressing full circle from the classroom to the golf course, bringing through the next generation of golfers who will carry on a legacy in their modern and fun way.For more junior development programmes and information contact the team on 01674 672634, professional@montroselinks.com , www.montroselinks.com
