Duncan Stewart comes home in 30 for a 63 to 
win top scratch at Edinburgh and East Alliance

The Edinburgh and East Alliance enjoyed a break in the weather on Wednesday  and 90 players headed to Gullane No.3 to resume play after the festive break.

The good weather brought some fine scoring and The John Glen Trophy was won late in the day when new member Robert Pelling of Craigielaw carded a fine net 62 to claim the silverware with 74 less 12 on the par 68 (34,34) course.

On the Scratch front Duncan Stewart, playing out of Turnhouse, produced a five under par 63 to claim the top prize with an excellent inward nine of 30 shots including an eagle at the par 5 14th. Close behind on 64 (33,31) was Gullane Trainee Marc Owenson with 3rd prize shared on 66 between Neil Henderson (Renaissance Club) and Ross Munro (Duddingston).

On the Handicap front Robert Pelling's net 62 earned the top prize  with 2nd prize shared three ways a shot further behind on net 63 by Ron Grant (Baberton) (69 lees 6), James Silvestro (Dalmahoy) (70 less 7) and Grant Skinner (Glencourse) (67 less 4).

Top Senior was Brian Chrystal (Baberton) on net 64 (75 less 11).

Top Trainee was Cameron Donaldson (Craigielaw) on 70.

The Order of Merits see some changes at the top of both Scratch and Handicap.

Scratch now sees Andrew Erskine leading -

2.= Craig Gordon (Edinburgh Golf Centre) - 250.5

2.= Andy Marshall (Houston Golf Range) - 250.5

Handicap now sees Ron Grant leading -

1. Ron Grant (Baberton) - 77.5

2. Willie Laing (Prestonfield) - 76.0

3. Ian Wyse (Falkirk Tryst) - 73.0


Next event is in two weeks for a visit to Northumberland to play Goswick Links.
