European Tour Qualifying Stage 2 events at 4 Spanish venues

Jack Doherty loses lead but still  best placed

Scot at halfway in Spain

The 11 Scots still competing - Chris Doak has retired after one completed round - in the European Tour Qualifying School Stage 2 eliminator at four venues across Spain are at the halfway stage of the 72-hole competitions and their chances of making it through to the Final Stage at PGA Catalunya, Girona from November 14 to 19 range from very good to very bleak.

The number of qualifying spots available at each venue is likely to be between 16 and 18.
Jack Doherty, pictured, lost a share of the lead at Lumine Golf Club, Taragoma with a 70 for 135 but he is still the best placed Scot in joint sixth place, only three behind the English leader, Matt Wallace (66 for 132).
Also at Lumine, Paul Shields is sharing 12th place on 136 (67-69) but not so well placed are Daniel Young, playing as an amateur, and Neil Henderson. They  are joint 53rd and 57th respectively.
Young is on 142 (72-70) and Henderson 143 (72-71).
Aberdeen's David Law is joint ninth at El Saler Golf Club, Valencia with rounds of 68 and 72 for 140, six behind Englishman Jimmy Mullen who leads here with 69-65 for 134.
Law would have been even better placed had he not bogeyed the 18th two days in a row.
Also at El Saler, Michael Stewart from Ayrshire is up against it. He is currently joint 55th on 147 (73-74). Chris Doak retired after an opening 77.
Ross Kellett pulled himself up the standings at Las Colinas, Alicante with a second-round 67 for 138 and a share of 14th place.
The Paul Lawrie Golf Centre player covered his last 11 holes in five under par. Kellett is six behind English leader Jamie Rutherford (65 for 132)
Edinburgh's Mark Hillson and Bradley Neil from Blairgowrie are sharing 32nd place on 141 at Panoramica Golf Club, Castellon, 13 shots behind the Spanish amateur, Scott Alexander, who is setting a blisering pace at this venue  with a 16 under par tally of 128 (62-66)
Hillson has shot 68 and 73; Neil 70-71. Neil bogeyed the 16th and 17th in his second round.
Also at Panoramica, Craig Lawrie, watched by his father Paul, is in joint 61st place although only one over par on 145 (73-72)
Young Lawrie's putter is "stone cold" ... he parred his last nine holes in the second round
Grantown on Spey's Duncan Stewart, playing out of Turnhouse, had a nightmare inward half of 42 for a second-round 76 and a halfway tally of 146 which has him well out of contention in a share of 66th place.  Sub-par third and fourth rounds are a must for Stewart.
