PGA EuroPro Tour report and leading final totals
Fenwick has to settle for £3,187 tied 2nd prize
after early bogeys kill £10,000 dream
Neil Fenwick, joint overnight leader with Scott Crichton, finished tied second in the PGA EuroPro Tour 54 hole tournament which ended at Montrose Links today.
The Dunbar man and the three others on 204 earned £3,187 each.
Fenwick had a final par-matching round of 71 after killing off his £10,000 jackpot dreams with bogeys at the first two holes.
He settled to birdie the long sixth and long 15th but a bogey at the short 16th left him needing a birdie to share second place - which he got for an inward half of one-under 34.
Winner by three strokes and the £10,000 prize was James Wilkinson from the Brampton club, Carlisle.
He had a brilliant final round of eight-under 63 with birdies at the first, third, fourth, sixth, eight, 11th, 13th, 14th, and 15th. He bgeyed the 17th for halves of 31 (five under) and 32 (three under) and a 12-under-par aggregate of 201
Second-best Scot was Mark Kerr (Marriott Dalmahoy) who closed with a 69 for joint sixth place on 205 and earned £1,275.
Joint overnight leader Scott Crichton subsided to a share of 10th place with a one-over 72 for 206 and earned £862.
The Aberdour man bogeyed the first, ninth, 10th, 16th and 17th in halves of 33 (one over) and 35 (level). His bogeys cancelled ouot his birdies at the long sixth, 13th, 14th and 18th.
Kris Nicol (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) put together a nice closing round of 68 for 209, the same total as stablemate Greg McBain. They earned £480 each.

Carlisle man wins £10,000 prize after an eight-under 63
NEWS RELEASE
By NICK TEALE
James
Wilkinson shot a final-round 63 to earn his first HotelPlanner.com PGA
EuroPro Tour title, winning the Eagle Orchid Scottish Masters at
Montrose Links by three shots
on 12 under par.
Wilkinson
(Brampton Golf Club, Carlisle) began the day five behind leader Neil Fenwick but
went out in 31 with five birdies to move to -9. Four more birdies at 11,
13, 14 and 15 saw
him to 13 under par and on course for a nine-under round which would
equal the course record.
He
dropped a shot coming in at 17, but still signed for a final-round 63,
eight-under the par 71, to put the pressure on the field.
Paul Reed birdied 15 to move to ten under with three to play but a bogey at the 17th signalled the end of his challenge and he joined those tied for second. Darryn
Lloyd (Stamford Marquees) also birdied 15 to move to ten under par, but bogeys at 16 and 18 saw him finish tied sixth.
Robert
Sutton (Dunstable Downs) (67, 70, 67), Darren Wright (Golf at
Goodwood) ( 67, 69, 68), Reed (Bristol and Clifton Golf Club) and
Fenwick (Dunbar Golf Club) ( 64,
69, 71) shared second place on nine under, three back from Wilkinson.
“I was
swinging it quite well on the range this morning and for the first few
holes wanted to keep it steady,” said Wilkinson, who wins £10,000, a
brand new Motocaddy trolley,
Bushnell Tour X range finder, Bolle sunglasses and £500 to spend at
HotelPlanner.com.
“It
was a bit windy out there today. I wanted to get off to a nice start
and managed to get four under early on. I didn’t think about winning it
at all, I was just trying
to shoot the best score that I could and keep hitting it close.
“I
stuck to my process all day and that helped me shoot 63, I am
delighted. The course record would have been the icing on the cake but I
wasn’t thinking of that. I just
wanted to keep hitting the shots and I got rewarded. I can’t believe
it, I am over the moon.”
Highlights
of Wilkinson’s win at Montrose Golf Links will air on Sky Sports on
Tuesday, July 14. The next HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour event is at
Mar Hall, Bishopton, southwest of Glasgow,
commencing Wednesday, July 15.
