Scots 1-2 at halfway in Global Golf Post Under-16 boys' championship

It's almost too good to be true! At the halfway stage of the Global Golf Post Scottish Under-16 boys' open championship at Arbroath, two Scottish lads head the international fiel, writes Colin Farquharson.
Jamie Stewart (Old Ranfurly), soon to represent Scotland in the European Young Masters, carried on playing brilliant golf and, with rounds of 65 and 66 for a nine-under-par tally of 131, he leads by two shots from Peebles' Darren Howie, winner of the Paul Lawrie Foundation Scottish schoolboys title a month or two ago.
Howie has had rounds of 66 and 67 for 133.
In third place is an English teeanger, Jake Benson (Beeston Fields) after rounds of 69 and 66.
Benson is two shots clear of four players on 137, including the intriguely-named FRENCH lad Ross MacIntosh from Aix les Bains, so Benson looks, on paper, to be the only threat to either Stewart or Howie making it a joy day for Scottish golf.
The cut fell at 144 and other Scots through to play two rounds on Thursday are Marc Watt (Inverallochy), tied 11th on 139 (70-69), Callum Burns (Balmore) T18 on 1Joh41 (73-68), Callum Bruce (Duff House Royal), T25 on 142 (70-72), Andrew Moir (Elgin) T29 on 143 (68-75) and four who made it on the limit mark of 144 - John Paterson (St Andrews New), Kyle Reid (Balmore), Alex Simpson (Strathmore) and Keith Bowman (St Andrews New).
A hour's playing time was lost early in the afternoon when the SGU officials detected lightning in the area and suspended play.
