McIlroy wins Cadillac World Match-play final
Rory McIlroy lived up to his World No 1 ranking by beating American Gary Woodland 4 and 2 in the Cadillac World Match-play Championship final at Harding Park, San Francisco.
McIlroy took control of the match early on and was never in danger of losing.
Earlier, the Ulsterman had taken only one more hole to notch a 22nd hole victory over England's Paul Casey, a tie that was unfinished on Saturday evening because of fading light.
Then McIlroy beat Jim Furyk (USA)_ by one hole in the semi-final while Woodland was registering a 3 and 2 win over England's Danny Willett.
Willett, who had a fantastic tournament for a comparative unknown in this elite company, capped his week by beating Furyk in the play-off for third place.
