England men beaten narrowly in Spain
England’s men suffered only their second ever defeat to Spain in the biannual international when they lost narrowly 12½ – 11½ at El Prat over the weekend.Although they closed the opening day a point behind, a repeat of the 2005 loss at Puerta de Hierro looked unlikely after the second day foursomes which England won 3-1.
With the top four second series of singles shared, England required to win two of the remaining four to continue their winning run against the Spanish.
But only Nathan Kimsey emerged victorious as Spain collected three more successes to edge over the line.
Jordan Smith from Wiltshire was England’s most successful player, winning all four of his games, while Surrey’s Josh White gained three points, losing only his final day single.
