Gavin Dear, who teamed up with Wallace Booth and Callum Macaulay to win
the world amateur team golf championship for the Eisenhower Trophy in
Australia in 2008, has been resinstated to the amateur ranks after a pro
career that never got off the ground.
Dear, pictured, played successfully for four years on US college circuit as a
student at Lynn University, Boca Raton and turned pro shortly
afterwards.
"I can confirm I have been reinstated as an amateur and am in the
process of getting a handicap," said Dear who hails from Scone, near
Perth.
"The decision to apply for reinstatement was quite simple because I am
not a PGA professional and it would have been very difficult for me to
continue to play. Returning to the amateur game allows me to play
competitions and contribute to the game.
"I have already been involved in a Perth and Kinross county squad
gathering and enjoyed playing again (apart from the snow). I am yet to
decide how much I will play this year as I am very busy working at Golf
Scholars, Shot Scope and golphinforkids but will hopefully manage to
play in the Scottish amateur match-play championship at Muirfield at the
end of July.".
