BISHOPBRIGGS SENIOR'S COSTLY LAST HOLE DOUBLE BOGEY

HUTCHEON BEATS ARNOTT IN PLAY-OFF

FOR NINTH WIN AND £1,500 PRIZE

Greig Hutcheon's ninth win of the Tartan Tour season was probably the tightest of them all so far.
The Paul Lawrie Golf Centre man beat a senior opponent, Robert Arnott (Bishopbriggs), with a birdie at the first hole of a sudden-death play-off at the conclusion of the 36-hole Hayston/Cawder Challenge, sponsored by Clyde Scaffolding Ltd.
They both had rounds of three-under-par 67 at Hayston yesterday (Monday) and four-under 66 at Cawder today (Tuesday) for seven-under aggregates of 133.
In a dramatic finale to the regulation rounds, Arnott was leading by one shot playing the short 18th. But his tee shot was carried by the wind into the trees and the hole cost him a double bogey 5, dropping him into a play-off with Hutcheon who had a bogey 4 at the same hole.
The duo returned to the short 18th to start the play-off and it ended there with a birdie 2 by Hutcheon
Feature of Arnott's final round was a run of six consecutive birdies from the seventh to the 12th.
He also birdied the fifth and 15th. Arnott earned £1,200.
Hutcheon birdied the third, sixth, eighth, 12th and 17th.
Christopher Currie (Caldwell) finished third, only a shot behind Hutch and Arnott, with scores of 69 and 65. With an eagle and five birdies in his first 13 holes of the final round, Currie was certainly hot stuff. Bogeys at the 14th and 18th cost him dearly. He earned the £900 third prize.
Heather MacRae is worth a mention for a joint seventh finish on 137. Her final round of 68 started with bogeys at the first and second but she later had an eagle at the 11th and birdies at the fifth, seventh, 10th, 13th and 17th.
Three consecutive bogeys on the inward half, at the 14th, 15th and 16th, cost her the chance to finish much closer to the leaders. Heather, who will be defending the Paul Lawrie Ladies Tartan Tour Championship over two rounds at Marriott Dalmahoy on September 10-11, earned £331.

Overnight leader by two shots, Keir McNicoll (Gullane) let it slip with a par 70 (two birdies-two bogeys) for a total of 135 and joint fourth place with Scott Henderson (Kings Links) (69-66). They both earned £552.
