STEVEN GILMOUR WINS FIRST AREA TITLE AT MACHRIHANISH DUNES

Steven Gilmour of Lochgilphead Golf Club won his first area title by claiming the 2013 stroke play championship at a blustery Machrihanish Dunes.

Frequent heavy showers made conditions difficult with scoring in the morning round very high - 75 being the early leader. Afternoon scoring was slightly better with Steven posting another 75 for a 150 total. Shortly after Machrihanish's Alan O'Neil who was recently selected for the Scotland senior team posted an identical total, which meant that a playoff for the second year running 

Both players birdied the first play off hole. Steven secured victory at the next hole with a par.

In 3rd place was Bute 's Graham Bolton with 151 , closely followed by Scottish boys and youths champion Bob MacIntyre on 152. Bob again captured the area youths title run in conjunction with the event.
