GLORIOUS SUNSHINE FOR HAGGS CASTLE'S FINALS DAY
In the Haggs Castle men's Club Championship final (on right, presenting the Trophy to Chris is Ricky Webster, Club Captain) over 36 holes.
Chris Dunbar who joined the Club this year was playing Craig Morrison the Centenary Club Champion in 2010.
The
match was extremely close all the way with Craig getting to the turn in
the afternoon round in 34, 2 under, but Chris withstood the pressure and
from the 9th fired 4 birdies in about 5 holes to take a 2 up lead into
the closing stages.
Craig's approach shot at 16 was close but Chris
holed a good putt from outside Craig to force him to hole to keep the
match going which he did. Chris played the 17th regulation to close out
the match to become Club Champion in 2013.
In the Junior Championship
final over 36 holes, Aran Sinclair, already Junior
Champion at Bearsden GC, was playing David Lamond. Again a very close
contest with David getting to 3 up during the second round but being
pegged back by Aran who was 1 down playing the last. A half in par 5s
en
sured David (pictured left) became Junior Champion for the first time.
JENNIFER MACK LADIES CHAMPION FOR 8th TIME
In the Ladies Championship
final many times winner and finalist Jennifer Mack
was playing 2009 Club Captain Audrey Sturgess over 18 holes.
Audrey
took an early 2 hole lead but Jennifer turned this round and coming down
17 Jennifer was 2 up.
Jennifer was in a bit of trouble in the front
bunker and Audrey won the hole to take the match down the 18th.
Jennifer played 2 excellent shots to the front fringe while Audrey was
in the greenside bunker left in 3. Jennifer played a nice chip and
Audrey was unable to get her birdie allowing Jennifer to win the
Championship for the 8th time.
